Rights organisation Legal Assistance to Helpless Prisoners and Persons (LAHP) has helped 558 helpless under trial prisoners who were suffering in jail without trial in different cases by releasing them on bail in last ten years.

The organisation has taken steps for providing counselling to the accused who were released on bail for their mental wellbeing and development.

Steps were taken for providing jobs to those persons so that they can lead a normal and beautiful life, LAHP Chairman Advocate Toufika Karim said today.

Advocate Toufika, also a lawyer of the Supreme Court, was speaking to a press conference at the LAHP office in Unique Heights Tower in Dhaka’s Paribagh area this afternoon.

Rashadul Quasar Bhuiyan, LAHP general secretary, Hira Talukdar, media adviser, of the rights organisers also spoke on the occasion.

The organisation is now providing legal assistance through its panel lawyers to the under trial prisoners in 22 districts including Dhaka, Narayanganj, Narsindi and Gazipur, Toufika Karim said in her speech.
