Allow me to take this opportunity not only as an advocate but also a citizen for expressing the appreciation for holding on to the interest and continuing the journey of LAHP with learnings, achiev- ements and opportunities for all the required benefi ciaries, starting from an office executive to panel lawyers including the roles of all the government offi cials, wherever necessary till the prisoners, etc.
While reading this you may feel the necessity of mentioning in such manner, and that’s only because each and every individual directly or indirectly has accorded the endeavors of our committee in various ways with their roles of participations.
LAHP has only so far managed to achieve without leaving a negative footprint and is grateful for the improvement and awareness that has been created. The motive is to only provide the advantage to lead life with peace and pride. It has been my privilege to be Chairperson of the LAHP NGO Committee, during the term I would now like to express my appreciation, gratitude and respect to my colleagues on the board, to the members of the committee, panel lawyers and to numerous civil society organizations country wide, which only corporates for building a better digitalized tomorrow.
The initiatives towards such more is to bring mental peace among the lives of the people in the society living. The prisoners are provided with legal assistance only with the motive to reduce their frustration in daily lives and help them to move forward with positivity. The purpose is to bring society to a better and healthy from to live in. Mental peace is extremely important as that will help an individual or a group to implement any task as required and so we may consider our programme to work as a process of holistic transformation of a society towards development.
Our work involves case studies or in other words anecdotal type of records which will work as identification of critical assumptions for future experimental evidence. Whoever will go through this will be able to benefit oneself with for programme outcome.
Legal Assistance to Helpless Prisoners And Persons (LAHP) is a bureaucratic nonprofit and nonpolitical organization, which was established in the year 2009 with the philosophy is to provide aid to the Poor and Helpless prisoner’s in the Court of Law. This is to act as the contribution for the betterment of the society along with the National Legal Aid Program of the government. Effective access to justice is not available to the poor. Constitutional guarantees of human rights, freedom, equality, justice and the equal rule of law is available for the citizens and it is clearly mentioned in Article 27. Before law and equal protection of law to all citizens and person remain meaningless for vast majority of persons since they live below the poverty line and consequently have little or no access to justice.
It has been found that the information about the LEGAL AID for the prisoners has no form of system maintained, to keep the public informed, and so accordingly there are prisoners serving for years doing nothing but letting their lives to head towards despair. Such lives lead to mental instability, which is very natural because it only comes from depression. Not only that but also the condition even lead the prisoners choose a life that will contribute the society with all the possible negative trials it may require.Reaching the law and justice system has always been a challenge for the majority of the population as the governance towards it has been extremely weak and vulnerable.
process. The present improvised, adhoc and in the line national perspective, quite inadequate private efforts in the field inescapably point to the need for a national institutional effort for providing free legal services. We are passing every single day with an ever-accelerating pace of the technological improvement. In simple words we call it the 21st century, a time that only focuses on the segment for ‘INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY’. The more an individual or an organization is updated the better it will perform. It could be on anything starting from policy making, strategic plans, management and co-ordination, program, implementation or beneficiary selection, etc. Although the government has provided the system with the facilities for the helpless prisoners to obtain legal assistance, but due to not being able to collect proper information regarding the issue, we often find the prisoners serving prison for what he/she is not liable for.
As a consequence, obtaining a fair trial in case of the court proceedings seems very restricted. Because of the outdated colonial laws, the judicial segment couldn’t cope up with time along with the poor financial structure and human resources. The ones who require the cooperation of the judicial body are often found to be spending more than they are required to. Of course, again it is because they are not aware of the right information and their deserving rights as citizens. As a result, there comes a point where they tend to loose complete interests or the poor system on the other hand stores a huge amount of backlog of cases. Majority of the population is not aware of the long detentions without conviction and fair trial, which may constitute a serious violation in human rights law.
Our mission for this year is to create awareness about:
